The Four Vedas – Heart Of Hinduism

The word 'Vedas' means knowledge in Sanskrit and refers to a large body of religious texts that originated in ancient India.
The Vedas are Hinduism's oldest scriptures, originally passed down orally but later written in Vedic Sanskrit between 1500 and 500 BCE.
There are 4 Vedas:-
1. Rigveda
2. Samaveda
3 Yajurveda
4. Atharvaveda
Each Veda is divided into four sections.
1. Mantras and Benedictions from the Samhitas.
2. The Aranyaka's - Text on rites and sacrifices.
Brahmanas - Ritual, Ceremonies, and Sacrifice.
4. Meditation in the Upanishads
There are two epics.
1. The Ramayana
2. The Mahabharata
1. Rig Veda - The oldest Sanskrit text. The Rigveda is a hymn collection known as Suktas (which contain the oldest form of all Sanskrit mantras).
The Rig Veda text is devoted to the three primary deities of the Early Vedic Period.
1. Agni (Fire God) (Fire God)
2. Varun (Sky God)
3. Indra (The God of rain, Storm and war)
Several hymns are also dedicated to Soma, a plant from which toxic drinks were made.
